Westport residents are packing their bags and heading out of town as heavy rain sets in

Buller Emergency Management is asking residents to self-evacuate ... to friends and family outside of Westport.

MetService is forecasting more significant rain, from tomorrow.

Local Controller Bob Dickson says he knows leaving your home can be distressing - but now's the time to move safely before more rain sets in.

He says those who can't evacuate to friends and family, should prepare for possible mandatory evacuations in coming days.
