Airlines are providing a helping hand - to get flood-stricken residents from A to B

Airlines are providing a helping hand - to get flood-stricken residents from A to B

The top of the South Island's roading network remains affected by last week's extreme weather, with State Highways 6 and 63 remaining closed.

Picton-based airline Sounds Air and Kaikoura's Wings Over Whales are putting on flights between Nelson and Blenheim.

Sounds Air managing director Andrew Crawford says they're running a charter flight tomorrow and Sunday for an event in Blenheim - and they'll see what demand is like.

He says they did a similar initiative when the Kaikoura 2016 earthquake closed State Highway 1 to Blenheim.
