A man parked his black Subaru Legacy saloon on Queen Street around 4.45pm before walking into a jewellery store and smashing display cabinets.
He took off in the same car with stolen jewellery, driving briefly onto the footpath and then heading north on Queen Street.
The car is believed to be a 2010 to 2012 model, with black alloy wheels and a distinctive chrome strip around the windows and no registration plates.
The offender is described as a teenager of average height, and was wearing a light-coloured hoodie and a face covering.
