A safety message for people hoping to party-hard in Thames-Coromandel, to ring in the New Year

A safety message for people hoping to party-hard in Thames-Coromandel, to ring in the New Year

Mayor Len Salt says the region is bustling with holiday-makers - and police have worked hard to prepare for the holiday.

He says there's lots of young people about, but if you're under 18 don't drink - and don't buy alcohol for underage friends.

Salt says people need to keep themselves safe, look out for those around them and ensure they have a designated driver.

Kaipara District's Mayor is mirroring the message - and says Mangawhai has never been busier.

Thousands have flocked to the town for the Northern Bass festival, and a similar number to Gisborne for Rhythm and Vines.
