    Fire restrictions have been put in place today for much of South Canterbury


    Ffire danger risk in Canterbury is expected to be at its peak - with MetService forecasting hot, dry temperatures - and strong north west winds.

    Fire and Emergency NZ has imposed the restrictions on the Ashburton High Country, Mackenzie Basin High Country and Hakataramea Valley.

    A permit will be required to light most kinds of outdoor fires.
