Thames Coromandel District Council has been sentenced for its part in failing to keep people safe in a giant inflatable slide collapse

Thames Coromandel District Council has been sentenced for its part in failing to keep people safe in a giant inflatable slide collapse

A dozen people, mostly children, fell from up to 12 metres at the Whangamata Summer Festival in 2020 - one victim breaking both his ankles.

The slide supplier JTK Trustee Limited was fined last year.

WorkSafe found JTK applied to the council using an old form which didn't require confirmation the slide met safety standards - and the permit was given three days later, with no further checks.
