Parts of the South Island are in for heavy rain this afternoon

An orange heavy rain warning is in place for Tasman west of Motueka, while a heavy rain watch is set for the Richmond, the Rai Valley area and northern parts of the Marlborough Sounds.

MetService says surface flooding and slips are possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.
