Police are on the hunt for two hammer wielding thieves who carried out a flagrant daytime attack on a New Plymouth jewellery store

Social media footage shows the pair smashing display cases while yelling at shocked bystanders.

The duo drove a stolen car onto the footpath outside the Currie Street Michael Hill store before attacking the store just after midday.

They took off in the car, at points driving on the wrong side of the road before ditching it on Carrington Street.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw the robbery.
