    A retail chain synonymous with the deep south, could be closing its doors for good


    H&J Smith Group is proposing to close its long-running department stores in Invercargill, Gore and Queenstown, with the loss of up to 220 jobs.

    Its Dunedin store closed in 2021.

    Consultation on the proposed closures and job cuts began last night and will last four weeks.
