MetService orange heavy rain warnings are in place for Gisborne and Hawke's Bay today

The Gisborne warning lasts until 9 this morning, with most of the rain falling on higher ground.

Peak rain rates in the region will be between 10 and 15 millimetres an hour.

The orange warning for Hawke's Bay south of State Highway Five runs until 3 this afternoon.

Up to 100 millimetres of rain could fall on the ranges and east hills south of Hastings, while everywhere else will see between 40 and 60 millimetres.
