There's been a spate of fires across the country

There's been a spate of fires across the country

In the Far North, the Coopers Beach bakery was set alight, there was a house fire in Rotorua, and a century-old building in Napier caught fire shortly after midnight.

Barely 20 minutes after the fire was reported at Kiwi Keith's Backpackers Lodge in Taradale, it was razed to the ground.

Fire and Emergency says there are no injuries.

In the South Island, a large house fire was reported in Kaiapoi near Christchurch, just after 10 last night.

Shift Manager Alex Norris says when FENZ crews arrived at the scene, it was well ablaze so had to work hard to extinguish the flames and also make sure nobody was inside.
