The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has made several safety recommendations after a fatal glider crash in 2020

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has made several safety recommendations after a fatal glider crash in 2020

An instructor and student died during a trial flight when the left wing clipped a bush, sending the glider into Taupo's Mount Tauhara.

The Commission says accident risk was heightened by Taupo Gliding Club's lack of systems to make sure pilots had appropriate knowledge.

Since the crash, the club has developed a training presentation, and published warnings in a newsletter and online.

The Commission made an additional recommendation that Gliding NZ review how instructors are trained and how clubs are audited.
