Police have confirmed a person has died following a single-car crash in Rolleston, south-west of Christchurch

Emergency services were called to Selwyn Road around 5am this morning.

The road is closed and enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash.

Nearby resident Michael was the first to the scene, and says he heard a bang around 4.45am.

He says he thought someone was in the house, but found a ute hard against a tree when leaving for work.

It's less than 10 metres away from where a motorcyclist died in a crash in 2018.
