Police Minister Mark Mitchell says it's unacceptable how many babies are being injured or dying

Investigations are continuing today, into how how 10-month-old baby Mustafa Ali suffered violent blunt-force trauma that didn't appear accidental, before dying in Te Kuiti Hospital on Saturday.

Police say the boy had suffered another non-accidental injury in October.

Mark Mitchell says he can't comment on the specific case, but New Zealand's statistics are very concerning.

He says the Government still has work to do, to ensure to make sure legislation settings are right to protect children.
