A person who died in an avalanche in the South Ashburton Range yesterday - was a tour guide leading a ski group

The Methven Heliski trip to Pito Peak, was cut short by the slip about midday.

A search and rescue team found the guide trapped, but he died soon after being pulled out about 1pm.

Alpine Guides Limited say the guide was a much-loved friend and colleague, and their thoughts are with his family and friends.

It says the other skiers were uninjured and WorkSafe is investigating.
