King Charles and Queen Camilla are planning to adopt a dog from Battersea Cats and Dogs Home

The royals were devastated when their Jack Russell Beth died last month and they are now hoping to offer a home to a dog in need

Speaking about chatting to the King at the recording of the Royal Variety Performance, Amanda Holden told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: "King Charles spoke to Alan [Carr] and I for ages,

"Camilla is a patron of Battersea Cats and Dogs Home and I'm the ambassador for there.

"We were talking about rescues and he was saying they were definitely going to rescue another one from Battersea and that losing their dog was so sad."

Amanda also praised Charles - who is currently battling cancer - for taking time to chat to everyone at the event.

She said: "It's amazing that he took the time to go around that whole room because it's a long night, it takes four hours to film.

!I said 'Get yourself home, you must be shattered'."

Beth was rescued in 2011 from the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London, of which Camilla is a royal patron.

Her death was announced last month, via a message on Charles and Camilla's official Instagram account.

The statement said: "A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen's much-loved companion from @Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire."
