    It may only be around 6 degrees in Wellington currently but that's not stopping emergency service staff and athletes from taking part in a polar plunge for a special cause


    The "be a giver while you shiver" event will raise funds for Special Olympics athletes and programmes across New Zealand.

    Inspector Rupert Friend says 27 thousand dollars were raised last year, and hopes more people dive in this year.

    The dip takes place at Freyberg Beach in Oriental Bay at 9am.
