Act Leader David Seymour's celebrating a victory - as Auckland University U-turns on compulsory Maori courses

Act Leader David Seymour's celebrating a victory - as Auckland University U-turns on compulsory Maori courses

Its Treaty of Waitangi and Te Ao Maori courses were made compulsory for first-year students this year.

Its senate has now recommended making them optional - after criticism from staff, students and politicians.

Seymour says students should be able to make up their own minds.

He says he has a huge admiration for Maori culture - but he doesn't think people should be forced to take part.
