Today is a chance to prepare for significant, damaging winds tomorrow

Today is a chance to prepare for significant, damaging winds tomorrow

MetService is warning the country to brace for another round of severe weather.

Warnings cover the South Island, lower North Island and Hawke's Bay today.

But tomorrow, Red Wind Warnings kick in for Canterbury -- blowing up to 150 kilometres an hour in exposed parts - and Wellington and Wairarapa could be hit by gusts reaching 140 kilometres an hour.

MetService Meteorologist Lewis Ferris says people need to act now on those red warnings.

He says tomorrow is looking to be even worse than yesterday.
