A livestock trader has been fined 10 thousand dollars for not declaring the movement of 513 cattle

A livestock trader has been fined 10 thousand dollars for not declaring the movement of 513 cattle

Dallas Garry Gerken was sentenced in the Ashburton District Court yesterday, after pleading guilty to charges under the National Animal Identification and Tracing Act.

All cattle or deer must be fitted with a NAIT tag and registered.

Gerken 's animals were moved from Canterbury, to different North Island farms.

South Island MPI Animal Welfare and NAIT Compliance Manager, Peter Hyde, says it only takes one animal to potentially cause a biosecurity problem.
