Gisborne-bound motorists are being urged to drive safe, and plan ahead, as traffic's expected to worsen, over the holiday break

Police say roads throughout the region will be busier, with Rhythm and Vines taking place, and people visiting their families.

They're advising drivers to expect delays, and account for extra-travel time.

Area Commander Inspector Danny Kirk, says officers will be across the district's main-roads and back-roads to ensure safe driving.

He says they'll be breath-testing, and not accepting excuses for poor driving behaviour.
