Julian David is through to the quarter-finals of the speed climbing, posting a personal best of 5.20 seconds to advance from the qualification round

Julian David is through to the quarter-finals of the speed climbing, posting a personal best of 5.20 seconds to advance from the qualification round

He'll clamber against American Sam Watson who set a world record 4.75 seconds in the final eight tomorrow evening.

Bryony Botha, Emily Shearman , Nicole Shields and Ally Wollaston have topped the qualifying round of the women's team pursuit after clocking four minutes 4.679 seconds.

A win against Italy in the first round tonight would see them ride for gold tomorrow morning.

Aaron Gate, Campbell Stewart, Keegan Hornblow and Tom Sexton's chances of riding for bronze have been dashed in the men's equivalent after blitzing Belgium in their six-versus-seven ride-off.

Losing outfits Denmark and Italy had the next best losing times after Australia and Britain secured places in the gold medal decider.

Dame Lisa Carrington has breezed through her first two canoe sprint heats at her fourth Olympics.

She and Alicia Hoskin are into the K2 500 semi-finals, and the pair linked up with Tara Vaughan and Olivia Brett to advance straight to the K4 final.

Aimee Fisher and Lucy Matehaere have missed joining them in the K2 semi-finals.

The men's K4 crew of Max Brown, Grant Clancy, Kurtis Imrie and Hamish Legarth are through to their semi-finals.

Imrie and Legarth have also advanced into the semifinals of the K2 via a photo finish for fourth in their quarter-final.

The same can't be said for Brown and Clancy in the C2 500 - the pair only entered the class so New Zealand has enough paddlers for the K4 500 and, at last report, they may still be dawdling down the course.

Maia Ramsden has unleashed a telling final lap to qualify for the semi-finals of the 1500 metres.

To men's basketball quarter-final results... Germany has beaten Greece, Serbia has overcome Australia in overtime, hosts France defeated Canada and the United States are poised to meet Brazil.

Mixed multihull sailors Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson head into tomorrow's double-point medal race in fourth off the coast of Marseille - and a chance for silver and bronze.

They're level on points with third-placed Britain, and six off Argentina in second.

Only Argentina are a mathematical chance of challenging leaders and reigning champions Italy for gold.

The men's dinghy medal race - featuring Tom Saunders - has been postponed until tomorrow due to light winds.

In kite foiling, Lukas Walton-Keim is 15th Justina Kitchen is 17th after another weather-affected day.
