    Luna Rossa co-helmsman Jimmy Spithill has confirmed his retirement from sailing


    It follows the Italian boat's 7-4 defeat by Ineos Britannia in the final of the challenger series in Barcelona.

    In 2013, Spithill steered Oracle Team USA to a stunning America's Cup victory, coming from 8-1 down to beat Team New Zealand.

    The Australian says the event has come a long way since his first campaign.
