A busy few days await Canterbury batter Rhys Mariu after his maiden Black Caps call-up

A busy few days await Canterbury batter Rhys Mariu after his maiden Black Caps call-up

He's been drafted in for the second and third one-day internationals against Pakistan next week with Will Young due to depart for the birth of his first child.

Canterbury have a final round Plunket Shield match against Wellington starting tomorrow at the Basin Reserve, which could decide the first-class title.

Coach Peter Fulton says the timing has worked well for Mariu to remain available.
