A boost for Nelson Hospital is the Government's largest ever investment in the city

A boost for Nelson Hospital is the Government's largest ever investment in the city

It's in line for a major upgrade, with a new 128-bed inpatient building set to be completed by 2029.

The plan also includes earthquake strengthening of the existing tower blocks.

The total cost for the redevelopment is unknown.

Mayor Nick Smith says the Government's undertaking Nelson's biggest project in history.

He says it's a relief the city's pleas have been heard, and believes it will be a turning point for local health services.
