Apprentice builder James Fitzgibbon and his partner were assaulted and injured in June last year.
The 25-year-old hit three people with his vehicle - giving them cuts and bruises.
He'd consumed drugs and alcohol, but passed impairment tests.
Auckland District Court Judge Steve Bonnar says he acknowledges the provocation, guilty plea, youth, and rehabilitation efforts.
Judge Bonnar says he hopes Fitzgibbon's learned his lesson.
