Police are boosting their presence in Orewa north of Auckland, after a cafe was deliberately set fire to over the weekend

Fire crews were called to the blaze on the main strip just before 11.30 on Saturday night.

Police suspect the fire could be linked to another arson and damage at a nearby business in recent months,

Waitemata North Area Commander Inspector John Thornley says these attacks are affecting people's livelihoods, and won't be tolerated.

He says Police will be talking to the public to gather more information, and they want people to come forward with any sightings of suspicious activity.
