Is it a bird? Or a plane? Well if you're in Auckland it could be a bat

Is it a bird? Or a plane? Well if you're in Auckland it could be a bat

Auckland Council says long-tailed bats are known to become more visible in summer and more efforts are underway to track them.

The chicken nugget-sized critters have the wingspan of a hand and can eat hundreds of bugs in a night.

Auckland Council Senior Conservation Advisor Ben Paris is asking locals to report any sightings of them.

He says they are found in parts of rural Franklin as well as the Waitakere and Hunua Ranges.
