Coastguard's reminding boaties to log bar crossings, after five people were rescued in North Canterbury last night

Coastguard's reminding boaties to log bar crossings, after five people were rescued in North Canterbury last night

A boat got into trouble crossing the Motu-nau bar around 5pm, and a mayday call came three hours later.

Three-metre waves hit the vessel, with one knocking its fuel tanks overboard.

Coastguard says the group was rescued safely thanks to good communication gear and lifejackets.

One person was taken to hospital, while three others were treated for hypothermia. 07-06-25 1239
