Anger at Local Government New Zealand's decision to join a long-running legal action over Auckland Council's bed tax

Anger at Local Government New Zealand's decision to join a long-running legal action over Auckland Council's bed tax

Auckland Council is appealing a Court of Appeal decision that found its controversial targeted rate on accommodation providers was "invalid".

Local Government New Zealand -- a group of most councils around the country -- has now joined the Council's appeal.

Accommodation New Zealand spokesperson Troy Clarry says ratepayers around the country are now supporting a costly legal case.

He says it's a continuation of ratepayer money being used to defend a rate that a court has ruled was unfair.
