Two officers have received the Police Association Bravery Award for their actions in a burning house in Counties Manukau

Two officers have received the Police Association Bravery Award for their actions in a burning house in Counties Manukau

Minister Winston Peters presented the awards to Sergeant Richard Bracey and Constable Friederike Faber.

They responded to a family harm incident in July last year - that escalated when a man struggling with the officers ignited petrol poured petrol throughout the property.

Peters says the pair dragged the offender to safety as the building was engulfed in flames.

He says they risked their lives fighting the fire using blankets and water from a garage sink.
