A makeshift memorial's been set up at an Auckland bus stop where a US PHD student was fatally assaulted

33 year old Kyle Whorrall was attacked as he sat in the shelter on Meadowbank's St Johns Road on Saturday night, by people arriving in a black SUV .

Police are hunting at least two offenders and asking for witnesses and footage.

This morning the shelter's been filled with large bouquets and solar-powered lights, to illuminate the stop at night.

Fellow students tell our newsroom entomologists will want to name new species in tribute to Whorrall .
