Serious charges over an alleged offending spree - including a man driving the wrong way on Auckland's Southern Motorway

Police say the 34-year-old committed assault and stole a vehicle in Mangere yesterday afternoon, and chased by officers in the evening.

The vehicle caused several minor collisions on the motorway at Takanini, and was arrested after bolting on foot when he failed to carjack a vehicle.

He was treated for minor injuries.

Charges include assault with a blunt instrument and burglary - with a bedside court hearing from hospital today.
