    A Coroner's found wearing a life jacket and proper boat repairs - might have prevented a 51-year-old's death in the Hauraki Gulf


    Tevita Moeakiola was found dead near Auckland's Musick Point, after his fishing boat capsized in June 2022.

    Two others swam the half-an-hour to shore in darkness.

    Coroner Rachael Schmidt-McCleave says had Moeakiola's hull repairs been done properly, it's possible the boat wouldn't have capsized.

    She's also recommending life jackets, notifying Coastguard of plans, and adequate waterproof communication devices.
