A young boy has serious injures after being hit by a car in Christchurch this morning

It appears the child was struck on the way to school by a car leaving a driveway on Woolston's Ferry Road - with a blue scooter left on the footpath.

Te Waka Unua School Principal Janeane Reid  says the student's now in hospital.

She's thankful to people who guided arriving students into class after the collision.
