Investigations are underway into a suspicious fire that broke out in a block of central Christchurch flats this morning

Firefighters were called to an address on Worcester St, near Fitzgerald Ave, just after 6am.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Andrew Norris says when crews arrived, they discovered one flat well-involved in flames.

He says there was some confusion about locating the occupants of the flats but they were later all accounted for.

A fire investigator is examining the scene.
