Christchurch's housing market is slowing, but is still the strongest of the main centres

Christchurch's housing market is slowing, but is still the strongest of the main centres

The April Core Logic Property Index shows a 0.8 percent fall in house prices nationally, with decreases in Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington and Dunedin.

Hamilton saw no change in median price while Christchurch was a lone grower with a half percent increase.

CoreLogic head of research Nick Goodall says the average house price in Christchurch is $761,356 - up 28.1 percent on 2021 figures.

Homeowners are being told not to panic, but he says anyone attempting to refix mortgages now will see a big jump in the rate they're charged.
