Christchurch police are renewing calls for residents to keep an ear out for power line tampering

Christchurch police are renewing calls for residents to keep an ear out for power line tampering

Thefts were reported across eight streets in Halswell, Sockburn, Sumner and New Brighton at the weekend.

The latest incident on Pannell Avenue in Wainoni yesterday, cut power to 79 homes.

Meanwhile, tampering in Halswell early Sunday left wires exposed near a kindergarten.

Senior Sergeant Roy Appley says if people hear anything out of the ordinary overnight, don't think nothing of it.

He says a previous arrest happened after reports of an angle grinder sound.
