Woolworths says it takes food safety responsibilities seriously, as it faces a hefty fine for failing to control a rat infestation

Woolworths says it takes food safety responsibilities seriously, as it faces a hefty fine for failing to control a rat infestation

The South Dunedin store shut for more than two weeks in February last year, after photos showed rats roaming the deli shelves.

Almost 30 rats were found over that period.

Woolworths is now facing a 200-thousand-dollar fine from Food Safety NZ.

Director of Stores Jason Stockill says processes and controls have since been improved and a best-practice strategy for pest control and management implemented.
