The North Dunedin New World supermarket's closed today after a fire last night

A Foodstuffs spokesperson says the fire originated in a produce cabinet.

He says crews are cleaning the store today and he expects it to reopen tomorrow - warning there might be residual smell inside the building.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson says the building was heavily smoke-logged and a fire investigator has been notified.
