A 19-year-old man has been charged following an assault in Wellington's Wainuiomata earlier this month

A 19-year-old man has been charged following an assault in Wellington's Wainuiomata earlier this month

He's due to appear in the Hutt Valley District Court today charged with a wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

It follows the arrest of a 23-year-old man the day after incident, on February 6.

Police say the victim was discharged from hospital after five nights and is recovering at home.

Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Todd says they're still working to find the weapon.

Residents near Woolworths Wainuiomata are asked to check their properties for any items similar to a knife.
