Colombian man caught with 10,000 euros worth of cocaine hidden in a wig

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to take 220g of cocaine to the Netherlands by hiding it in a wig.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to take 220g of cocaine to the Netherlands by hiding it in a wig.

National Police in Colombia arrested the Peirara man at an airport in Cartagena, about 980km north of Bogotá, attempting to board a flight to Amsterdam, they said in a statement.

Video released by police show an officer discovering the 19 capsules containing 400 doses of cocaine in the toupee-style wig after they appeared in an X-ray.

Cartagena Police's Brigadier General Gelver Yecid Pena Araque told the press the man was profiled by experts and subject to procedure.

"There, through the scanner and a body search, the wig was found, which contained more than 220 grams of cocaine that he intended to take to this country [Amsterdam] and with this, criminal profits got hit," he said.

Brigadier General Araque said the cocaine was worth about 10,000 euros ($16,590) in Europe.

The man was charged with the crimes of trafficking, manufacturing and carrying narcotic substances.

Colombian Police said the man also had two prior court records for drug trafficking.

Brigadier General Araque said so far this year, 450 people had been arrested for drug trafficking and more than 115 kilograms of drugs had been seized, including marijuana and cocaine.
