Police say Today show host Savannah Guthrie's mother has been abducted

Police have declared a crime scene after the mother of US TV personality Savannah Guthrie went missing from her home. Here's what we know.

US authorities are treating the disappearance of the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie as a crime based on what they have seen at her home, an Arizona sheriff has told the media.

Police have stressed to the public that Nancy Guthrie did not leave her house on her own, where she was last seen near on Saturday night.

The circumstances around her disappearance have captured global interest, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Here's what we know about the disappearance.

    What happened to Nancy Guthrie?

Nancy Guthrie was last seen about 9:30pm near her home in the Tucson area of Arizona.

According to police, a family member received a call when Ms Guthrie wasn't seen at church.

Her family searched for her, then called 911 and reported her missing on Sunday evening.

The Today Show host shared a statement on her Instagram with a photo of a plain background with the words "Please Pray" on it.

"We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him," she wrote.

"Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.

"We need you. He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord." A verse of Isaiah for all time for all of us.

"Bring her home," the statement said.

Police say upon visiting her home, they believed it was a crime scene and have used drones and search dogs to look for her.

According to police, she has some mobility issues and requires daily medication for some health issues that could be fatal if not taken within 24 hours.

What did police find at her home?

Police said they believed she was abducted because of what they found at the home.

In a press conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said there were signs she did not leave on her own.

"We believe 100 per cent right now she could not have walked away from that home," Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS News.

"I believe she was abducted, yes. She didn't walk from there. She didn't go willingly. We don't believe that."

Search and rescue teams were supported by volunteers, and Border Patrol and the homicide team were also involved, which was not standard for these types of cases, he said.

"We don't see it so much as a search mission so much as it is a crime scene," Nanos said.

A helicopter was seen flying over the affluent Catalina Foothills area near Nancy Guthrie's home.

"I need this community to step up and start giving us some calls," Nanos said during a news conference.

While she had mobility issues, the sheriff said Nancy Guthrie, who lived alone, had no cognitive issues.

"This is not dementia related. She's as sharp as a tack. The family wants everyone to know that this isn't someone who just wandered off."

Police say the FBI has been briefed.

US Customs and Border Patrol is also assisting.

    Who is Savannah Guthrie?

Savannah Guthrie has been the host of NBC News morning show Today since 2012.

She has also worked as an attorney and a White House correspondent.

Ms Guthrie was born in Melbourne when her father was stationed there for work, but grew up in Tucson, Arizona.

She is currently in Arizona and earlier issued a statement that was reported by the Today show, before posting one on Instagram on Tuesday, local time.

"On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support," she said. "Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Nancy."

According to the Associated Press, Nancy Guthrie appeared in a 2025 Today show story her daughter did about her hometown.

She has frequently discussed her close relationship with her mother on the show.
