History beckons at Riccarton Racecourse this afternoon as Cup Week begins in Christchurch

History beckons at Riccarton Racecourse this afternoon as Cup Week begins in Christchurch

For the first time champion female jockey Kylie Williams will race against her son Logan Bates, who has made the trip from Melbourne where he's currently an apprentice.

    Williams explains the significance.

It's already been a landmark year for Williams - she became the first South Island based jockey to reach 1000 career wins in September.

    Racing starts at midday.
