Support is being provided, for those caught up in the bus crashes near Tekapo

Support is being provided, for those caught up in the bus crashes near Tekapo

Two buses carrying Chinese tourists crashed, about 100 metres apart, on the Tekapo-Twizel Road between Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki, just before 9am yesterday.

Fifteen people have been receiving hospital treatment, including two with serious injuries.

Mackenzie District Mayor Anne Munro says a Civil Defence Emergency Management centre has been supporting the other affected passengers.

She says it's part of the council's role to make sure Civil Defence is prepared for emergencies like this.

The Chinese Consulate has also been supporting those affected.
