A young kea seriously injured by a lead bullet in Golden Bay is recovering well

A young kea seriously injured by a lead bullet in Golden Bay is recovering well

A conservation worker found the bird limping in February and took it the Manawatu Wildbase animal hospital.

CT scans revealed a shattered lower left leg bone - and it was badly infected.

Dr Megan Jolly says the kea's responding well to treatment, but it will be a long process.

It is not yet known if the injury was deliberate.
