The Department of Conservation is trialing paid car parking at three high-use sites - the West Coast's Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, Franz Josef Glacier and White Horse Hill in Aoraki Mount Cook

Funded by the International Visitor Levy, the pilot programme includes free parking for drop off and pick ups, hourly and daily parking rates, and annual passes for locals and regulars.

DOC received more than 150 submissions on the plan itself, and is now looking for feedback on the proposed fees.

Implementation begins late this year, and runs until June 2026.
