At least four specialist Auckland fire trucks are out of action while they are tested for asbestos

At least four specialist Auckland fire trucks are out of action while they are tested for asbestos

The city's Central Fire Station on Pitt Street is closed and firefighters were given a precautionary decontamination last night following positive results in dust samples.

Fire and Emergency says asbestos was removed from the station last year and they didn't expect another positive result.

Professional Firefighters Union vice president Martin Campbell says it's a developing situation and says it raises many questions about Fire and Emergency's policy and procedures.

Further testing will take place around the station today.
