    Severe weather's set to ease today, before returning from Thursday


    Winds have caused hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage in Invercargill, flattening 18 empty horse stalls at Ascot Park Raceway.

    The ODT reports a man's been rescued from a house boat in Dunedin's Portobello Bay, and a section of State Highway 73 is closed west of Arthurs Pass is closed due to a slip.

    MetService meteorologist Silvia Martino says the system's easing as it moves over the lower North Island.
