The death of a seven-year-old boy, who died in a Dunedin car crash, was allegedly caused by his meth-impaired mother

O'Siar Prasad died in March, when the car he was in, crashed through a fence and into a ditch on Owaka Valley Road.

His 47-year-old mother, Sangita Prasad appeared in court yesterday, charged with careless driving causing death while under the influence.

The ODT reports she was remanded on bail on condition she doesn't drive or possess illicit drugs - and will re-appear next month to enter a plea.
